About Alexa Allen

Alexa Allen is an artist, designer, and craftswoman.
Formally trained as a woodworker, at CCA in San Francisco, a foundation which gave her an education in contemporary craft. After moving back to Boulder, Colorado, she soon became interested in expanding her skill-set and learning another craft. She discovered leather goods and has been running her own leatherwork business for the last 10 years which has included private commissions, architectural leatherwork, and teaching leatherwork classes. Her leatherwork has been featured in Martha Stewart Magazine, Real Simple Magazine, 5280 Home Magazine, and Boulder Lifestyles Magazine.

PuSHING THE PROCESS

With Alexa’s background in woodworking, she soon realized she could push and explore the boundaries of what we traditionally think leather can do. Using a combination of traditional leatherwork tools and creating new tools and methods of working, Alexa creates unique pieces that are an unexpected and refreshing take on a classic material.

Working in this way allows her to take on interesting commissions and one-of-a kind projects for home and body. Each new collaboration is a exciting challenge that opens new possibilities for what leather can do.

Drawing as Both Process and Product.
Creating surface patterns and graphics give leatherwork a new dimension. Alexa uses print and molding techniques to shift between the leather’s rugged, masculine qualities and a softer, unexpected look.

Working through sketch + innovative crafting techniques over the years she has developed a body of work and toolset to build upon with each new product release.

From leather cuffs to cabinet drawer pulls and handbags to bowls, Alexa aims to create pieces that are soft and subtle, with just enough edge to surprise and delight.
